Will Blow Your Mind – Part 3
January 20, 2016
Welcome to Alphabet Domains Live Online Marketing Class tonight, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 @ 6pm (PST) right here on @alphabetdomains
It’s a privilege to be here and a joy to have all of you with us as we discuss “The Future of Mobile Will Blow Your Mind!”.
First, we will recap our last session …
Back in the early 1970s there was a lot of talk about the car phone … the center mounted phone on the front console.
Then as now … people wondered what was going on with the mobile phone business. They understood the car phone … now they’re talking mobile.
What’s this “mobile” thing … was the buzz…
Martin Cooper, an engineer for Motorola, had the idea that everyone could have a phone in-hand as they moved around.
Martin Cooper, an engineer for Motorola, had the idea that everyone could have a phone in-hand as they moved around … a mobile phone. WOW!
Marty as he is affectionately called, understood the future and had the insight needed to see the “talking” phone needed to “cut” the cord and go mobile!
While at Motorola in the 1970s, Cooper conceived the first handheld mobile phone (distinct from the car phone) in 1973.
He led the team that developed it and brought it to market in 1983. He is considered the “father of the cell phone”. He is also cited as the first person in history to make a handheld cellular phone call in public.
Cooper is co-founder of numerous successful communications companies with his wife and business partner Arlene Harris … also known as the “first lady of wireless.”
He is co-founder and current Chairman of Dyna LLC, in Del Mar, California … still working on the “mobile” of things. Arlene Harris is President and Co-Founder of DYNA, LLC. She has over 35 years of experience as an entrepreneur.
Cooper also sits on committees supporting the U.S. Federal Communications Commission and the United States Department of Commerce.
Back in 1973 “Marty” wanted people to be able to carry their phones with them anywhere. Not tied to the cord. He saw the Future of Mobile.
The phone he used weighed more than two pounds, and it took 10 hours to charge it for a mere 35 minutes of conversation.
It was a far cry from today’s sleek handheld devices … and it had a price tag of $3,995 … out the door … WOW!
It was hard to imagine a phone as a crucial tool in everyday life … used daily by everyone from businessmen to elementary school children.
“Marty” … the “father of the cell phone” … saw it and he must be quite amazed today to see what he started. Amazed to look out the window and see school kids, moms, dads and the truckers making phone calls on devices in their hands.
Who would have thought those phones weighing two pounds would become what we see today. Who would have thought those phones weighing two pounds would become what we see today … in everyone’s hand, every where, used by everyone.
Marty saw the future of mobile then and knew what it’s impact would be on business, commerce and family life.
Marty saw The Future of Mobile … and it is now!
The Future of Mobile will blow your mind …
Imagine when you sent your first text message … the post office was in trouble right then.
This waiting for three or four days to get a letter and then sending one back took another three or four days … a week to send a note!
When was he last time you went to the post office for stamps so you could send a letter?
That long …
Well, that is just the “tip of the iceberg” … mobile is going to change a whole lot more than how we send messages.
The Future of Mobile is changing how we shop, how goods and services are ordered, how climate control is handled in homes and businesses and a lot more.
This mobile of things is changing how we get cellular signals …
The old “drop signal” thing is about to become history …
Companies with hundreds of thousands of online customers and/or visitors are in for an awakening of sorts …
People living in remote parts of the world are in for real connection to the outside world.
Advertisers and marketers are a part of this mobile of things and many are watching this program right now. They understand the value of mobile in their business.
Alphabet Inc, the largest company in the world, experienced considerable growth (Q4 2015) in mobile revenue. Mobile search has increased and clicks on ads continue to generate revenue. A lot of data is being generated with mobile.
With all of this data going back and forth, there has to be somewhere to store it … the Future of Mobile is going to impact data storage.
Shopping malls and store fronts are also impacted by the mobile of things … many of them are getting this message … strip malls are remodeling so they can attract more customers because storefronts are losing revenue to mobile purchases.
Auto sales and repair are also impacted by this mobile of things … some don’t even know it …
Hairstylists, makeup artists, barbers, chefs, restaurants, bicycle shops are all in for a big surprise … with this mobile of things.
The Future of Mobile has created a more connected world … and it is mind blowing!
Even the task of vacation planning is impacted by this … mobile of things.
Let’s look at how “The Future of Mobile Will Blow Your Mind!”
First, we’ll look at mail delivery … remember the Pony Express … delivered mail on horse back over long distances with cheers at the end?
The USPS has some new things coming your way soon…
Wired reports The USPS has been testing the service, Informed Delivery, in some zip codes in Northern Virginia since 2014, and it will reach the New York City metro area, plus select areas of Connecticut, beginning this fall.
USPS says expansion to other areas is being considered for 2016. For now, the Postal Service will only send you scans of letter-sized envelopes via email (email is on your phone).
The idea is the USPS wants to be technologically savvy … in the light of this “not enough profits” forecast … and all these text messages being sent for free.
The Postal Service’s own track record when it comes to attempts to be technologically forward is a bit of a mixed bag—the current (December 2015) version of iOS mobile app, for instance, has a sorry 1.5 star rating in Apple’s App Store.
USPS has other formidable Silicon Valley competitors in the business of smoothing over mail and shipping logistics … not to mention FedEx and UPS. It needs to stay competitive. When it comes to disrupting the post office, maybe the best hope is for the agency to improve itself.
“Want this create a whole lot of work for the Post Office?” Someone just asked.
USPS actually already photographs every letter and package mailed in the United States since late 2001, so not really is mostly the answer.
Note: This practice was started after anthrax attacks in late 2001 killed five people, including two postal workers. So this new notifications system may not necessarily add a whole bunch of extra work to the agency’s current processes.
What was one of the factors … the mobile of things … eliminating the ever increasing cost of stamps. Someone just said they have 4 yr old stamps they never used.
The P.O. has to have more coming as they work hard to get in on this mobile of things.
The internet has made the Post Office core business come to a halt and who do you think could get your mail and packages to you quickly … deliver everyday of the week and have facilities closer to more Americans to deliver packages and maybe the mail?
That’s right Amazon … Amazon is the master in the delivery business and they have a great phone app. They may be the best help for the Post Office. bit.ly/1SIY4rt
Now let’s look at Verizon … Verizon recently acquired AOL … why?
It’s the Future of Mobile … Verizon is doing well right now but to generate more revenue in the future it needs to expand.
AOL offers the company a chance to cash in on the growing (and lucrative) digital content market … did you get that, digital content!
Fortune says Verizon is likely just trying to gain some type of foothold in the changing online industry, as its traditional communications business slows down.
Mobile is changing even what the tech giants are doing … AOL gives content and a lot of mobile customers. This AOL deal puts a lot in Verizon’s plans … filling in the gaps it needs to reach it’s future goals.
So look for more video and plenty of content offers coming to a phone near you … for.tn/1Dt4Wz3
Now to Data storage … Microsoft is experimenting with underwater data centers. What water and electricity?
Microsoft unveiled Project Natick — an ongoing research project into subsea data centers that could be cost effective and increase revenue.
Did you notice … the giants are making moves right now … so should we!
Whether you’re small or large … making the right moves as it relates to the future of mobile is the correct move. Setting priorities that include mobile is a must, going forward.
All three of these tech (giant) moves relate to the growth of mobile … from the Post Office to Verizon to Microsoft data storage ideas. This gives us a glimpse into the future of mobile in their plans and helps us to prioritize our mobile goals.
The one we will now focus on is the AOL deal … bringing content …
Lesson: Smaller companies (mom and pop) and entrepreneurs should look to the future of mobile for their programs, so they’re ahead and not left in the mobile dust.
This mobile of things is moving so fast that it can keep one up at night. Focusing on the content in your online presence using content marketing is one of the best ways to get ahead of the curve … and not be left behind.
We covered content marketing last week and there are plenty of content marketing experts in this network available to help.
This will be so important in the future that Microsoft sees underwater as the new “frontier” for data storage. Data = content … content = profits.
Your phone has a lot of content: email, messages, images, pictures banners, flyers and much more. Put all of those phones in the US together … that is a lot of data. Now the whole world … WOW!
We can be apart of this Future of Mobile by planning now … looking way ahead, be tech savvy, plan on your data storage and get busy utilizing mobile in advertising your business.
Microsoft knows that data has to go somewhere … and the future storage capacity holds the key to unlimited revenue. Once it is “perfected” all of the alarms will go off and the profits will come in. In the meantime, they will work on it and work on it until they get it right … then launch!
What should we be doing?
We should be working on our plan and keep working on our plan until we get it right, then launch!
The very first step should be to get a domain name for your project. Like Microsoft secured the domain name for their Project Natick (projectnatick.com).
Remember the domain comes first and then build the business around it. One more time, the domain name comes first then build the business around it.
Building the business and then go looking for the domain name can be problematic, since someone may already have and be using the domain name. Then you’re “stuck” with a domain you don’t want … what a downer!
Some of the key parts in the Future of Mobile are: Prioritize mobile, mobile advertising, use of the mobile web and not just apps, get more tech savvy, concentrate on content and be sure to secure your domain name FIRST.
